About this Course

This course is for anyone who would like to enhance their wood projects to add interest and beauty, using techniques that require only small amounts of wood and other materials to create big effects. Six areas of decoration will be taught: marquetry, inlay, scrollwork, intarsia, carving and pyrography. Each area will include introductory to advanced techniques, using both hand tools and machines. Enrolment in the class is limited. You must attend the first class to take the course: it includes general concepts and shop safety and is essential for getting the most out of the course and completing work safely. There are several ways to approach this course. For each type of decoration you will be encouraged to complete samples to learn the technique hands-on. These can be engrossing and an end in itself for some. Others may choose to apply favourite technique(s) to a wood project. If you plan to do this during classes a small project is recommended because shop space is limited.
